Moving on down to the 3rd floor

The time to move to the third floor may finally be upon me! I think that my landlord really meant it this time when he said he'd be done in the next week or two, as opposed to the last time he said he'd be done on August 1. He didn't quite make that deadline obviously!

On the one hand I'm looking forward to moving down there. One flight of stairs fewer! A washer/dryer in the bathroom! I get to take over the larger bedroom with the larger closet! Wood floors! Exposed brick! Good lighting! There are a lot of amenities, that's for sure.

On the other hand, it's change. And change that will lead to my permanently vacating the building around August 1, 2010 unless I can cough up another $400/month in rent to stay there. You see, the landlord is giving me a break on the rent because he basically blackmailed me in to staying in July when I told him I was ready to move out. Long story short: he threatened to keep my deposit and I agreed to stay if he'd give me the third floor at a discount. He did, so I stayed. Anyway, moving downstairs is one step closer to the door of this place and honestly I don't know how I feel about that. I've lived here for quite a while now...over four years total at this point. It's my home. It will be weird to leave it for another share or another apartment somewhere. I just hope when it comes to it that I'll be able to afford a studio and live alone.

In the meantime, I'm off to the cushy third floor just as soon as that pipe really gets installed...

Time for change

I've been really restless and malcontent lately. I don't know the exact source of the problem, but I feel equally annoyed with work and personal life. Something's gotta give!

Yesterday I started by breaking things off with the guy I was seeing who, honestly, I just wasn't that into. Last week I found myself with a few free hours on Sunday and I thought about calling him to hang out because I knew that's what he would have wanted me to do. However I went ahead and sat on my couch reading my Robert Moses book without so much as a text message. His fate was sealed. We'd only been seeing each other about seven weeks, but he insisted that he'd already fallen in love with me and that I was the one for him. Unfortunately I didn't feel the same way. At all. It's amazing how good it felt to delete the upcoming dates with him from my calendar.

Tomorrow I'm running a 10km race in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It might be my last outdoor race of the year, so Sunday I'm going to head over to a neighborhood branch of New York Sports Clubs and get myself a week trial. I haven't been the member of a good quality gym since October 2007 and it is starting to show in my old age. Time to get back to spinning and pilates and all that other good stuff!

The next thing is going to be the job. I need to get out of here ASAP! If you know of any jobs for me, let me know. I was offered a job in late September but had to turn it down for financial reasons, which is a bummer because it was such a cool job (and one I would have started in a week had I accepted it). The timing was good but the pay cut was not. I since had another interview with a hedge fund but they were sort of like a cult and the personalities just didn't fit. Ah well, something else will come along!
